Service 01 / 08 — Websites

Websites that make your business easy to understand and easy to choose

Your website is often the first serious conversation a customer has with you, usually before they ever call. We design and build sites that load quickly, read clearly on any screen and give people a confident next step. Underneath, the code is tidy and documented, so the site stays manageable long after launch.

A good fit for

  • Service businesses replacing an outdated or slow site
  • Startups that need a credible first website before a launch or funding round
  • Schools, colleges and training institutes with lots of information to organize
  • Local businesses that rely on calls, enquiries and map searches
  • Teams that want to edit their own content without breaking the layout

Why it matters

Problems this solves.

01

Visitors leave before they understand what you offer

Vague headlines and crowded pages make people work too hard. If the offer is not clear within a few seconds, most visitors simply go back to the search results.

02

The site is slow, especially on mobile

Heavy themes, oversized images and stacked plugins add seconds to every page. On a mid-range phone over a patchy connection, that delay is the difference between a visit and a bounce.

03

Every small change needs a developer

When content is hard-coded or the admin is confusing, updates pile up and the site drifts out of date. Prices, team pages and announcements end up months behind reality.

04

Nobody is sure what is under the hood

Sites inherited from past vendors often have unknown plugins, outdated software and no backups. That is a security and continuity risk most owners only discover when something breaks.

Scope

What the service includes.

Every project is scoped individually. These are the parts we typically cover; your proposal lists exactly what applies to you.

01

Structure and messaging

We plan the sitemap, page hierarchy and key messages before any visual work. Each page gets a clear job and a clear next step for the visitor.

02

Responsive interface design

Layouts are designed for small screens first and then expanded for tablets and desktops. Typography, spacing and buttons are sized for real thumbs and real reading.

03

Accessible, standards-based build

We use semantic HTML, sensible heading order, readable contrast, keyboard-friendly navigation and descriptive alt text. Following WCAG guidance helps people using assistive technology and usually improves the experience for everyone else too.

04

Performance by default

Images are compressed and sized correctly, scripts are kept lean and caching is configured. We test against Core Web Vitals so speed is measured rather than assumed.

05

Search-friendly implementation

Clean URLs, unique titles and descriptions, an XML sitemap, correct canonicals and structured data where it fits. This gives search engines a clear picture of the site from the first day it goes live.

06

Security and handover basics

HTTPS, hardened forms with spam protection, current software versions and a backup routine. You receive access to everything, with notes on how the site is put together.

Deliverables

What you receive

  • Sitemap and page-by-page content outline
  • Responsive designs for every agreed page type

Engagement

How the work runs

  1. Audit and outline

For a redesign, we review the current site, its traffic and its content to decide what stays, what goes and which URLs need redirects. For a new site, we agree the page list and what each page must achieve.

  2. Key page designs

We design the homepage and one or two representative inner pages first, then refine them with you. Once that visual language is settled, the remaining templates follow quickly.

  3. Build with real content

We develop on a private staging link and load your actual copy and images, not placeholder text. That is where awkward headings, missing photos and long tables get caught.

  4. Test, launch and settle in

We check browsers, devices, forms, speed and redirects, then go live at a quiet time. After launch we watch for errors and indexing issues and fix anything that surfaces.

Technologies we useChosen to suit each project

  • Semantic HTML5
  • Modern CSS (Grid, Flexbox, custom properties)
  • JavaScript, kept to what the page needs
  • PHP
  • WordPress with custom themes
  • Figma
  • WCAG accessibility guidance
  • Lighthouse and PageSpeed Insights
  • Google Search Console
  • Schema.org structured data

Questions

Common questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

01 Should my site be custom-coded or built on WordPress?

It depends on how often you edit content and how much flexibility you need. WordPress suits teams that publish regularly and want a familiar editor, but it needs updates and careful plugin choices. A custom-coded site can be lighter and faster with less to maintain, though editing options are more limited unless we build an admin for them. We will recommend one after understanding how you work, and explain why.

02 Can you redesign our existing site without losing search traffic?

We plan redesigns to protect what already works. That means mapping old URLs to new ones with permanent redirects, keeping pages that bring in visitors and preserving useful content. Some short-term movement in search is normal after any significant change, but careful migration keeps the risk low.

03 Will we be able to update the website ourselves?

Yes. We set up the content areas you are likely to change, such as text, images, team members, news and FAQs, so they can be edited without touching code. You also get a short guide written for your site, not a generic manual.

04 How much does a website cost?

Pricing depends on the number of page types, the content involved, integrations and whether we are writing the copy. We quote after a short conversation about your requirements, and the quote spells out exactly what is included so there are no surprises later.

05 Who owns the website once it is finished?

You do. The domain, hosting account, code and content belong to your business, and we hand over all access at launch. If you choose to work with us on maintenance afterwards, that is a separate arrangement you can end at any time.
